Microsoft Introduces Third-Party Passkey Support for Windows 11
/ 1 min read
Microsoft enhances Windows 11 with third-party passkey support. The tech giant is currently testing updates to the WebAuthn API that will allow users to utilize third-party passkey providers for passwordless authentication on Windows 11. This initiative aims to improve security by leveraging biometric methods like fingerprints and facial recognition, thereby reducing the risks associated with traditional passwords. Microsoft has been collaborating with credential providers such as 1Password and Bitwarden since early October and plans to roll out these updates to Windows Insiders in the Beta Channel. Additionally, the company has released source code for developers to create their own plugins, further supporting the adoption of passkeys as a standard sign-in method.
