Korea Arrests CEO Over DDoS-Enabled Satellite Receivers

/ 1 min read

South Korean police arrest CEO and employees for DDoS-enabled satellite receivers. Authorities have detained a CEO and five employees for producing over 240,000 satellite receivers that were either pre-loaded or updated with DDoS attack capabilities at the request of a purchasing company. This collaboration dates back to 2017, with the purchasing company specifically requesting the DDoS functionality in 2018 to counter a competitor’s attacks. The investigation, prompted by intelligence from Interpol, revealed that users of these devices were unknowingly involved in illegal attacks, which could degrade their device performance. The arrested individuals face charges under South Korea’s information protection laws, and authorities have seized assets worth approximately $4.35 million linked to the sale of these malicious devices.
