AWS Mandates Multi-Factor Authentication for Root Users
/ 1 min read
AWS enhances security with expanded MFA requirements. Amazon Web Services (AWS) is reinforcing its security measures by mandating multi-factor authentication (MFA) for root users in AWS Organizations, starting in May 2024. This initiative aims to combat password-related attacks, which account for over 99% of breaches, by promoting the use of FIDO2 passkeys and enabling centralized management of root access. As a result, more than 750,000 AWS root users have already enabled MFA, and further requirements will be implemented in Spring 2025 to enhance security for member accounts.
