US Department of Justice shuts down PopeyeTools, a major cybercrime marketplace. The DOJ has dismantled PopeyeTools, an online hub for cybercriminals selling stolen credit card information and hacking tools, and arrested three alleged administrators from Pakistan and Afghanistan. Operational since 2016, PopeyeTools catered to over 227,000 users, generating more than $1.7 million in revenue by offering validated stolen data and fraud tools. The crackdown included seizing the website and $283,000 in cryptocurrency, highlighting the DOJ’s commitment to combat cybercrime through an “all-tools” approach. The arrested individuals face up to 10 years in prison for access device fraud, marking a significant step in disrupting illegal online activities.
