/ 1 min read

Texas teen arrested for involvement in Scattered Spider cybercrime ring. Remington Goy Ogletree, a 19-year-old from Fort Worth, Texas, has been arrested by the FBI for his role in a phishing operation linked to the notorious Scattered Spider group. Between October 2023 and May 2024, Ogletree allegedly gained unauthorized access to two telecommunications companies and a national bank, stealing sensitive data and selling access on the Dark Web. He is also accused of sending approximately 8.5 million phishing texts to steal cryptocurrency. Following his arrest, Ogletree revealed details about Scattered Spider’s operations, including their preference for targeting business process outsourcing firms due to weaker security. This arrest is part of a broader crackdown on the group, which has faced multiple law enforcement actions in recent months.
