Chinese EagleMsgSpy Spyware Targets Mobile Devices Since 2017

/ 1 min read

🦅📱 New Chinese surveillance tool EagleMsgSpy targets mobile devices. Cybersecurity researchers from Lookout have identified a sophisticated surveillance program, codenamed EagleMsgSpy, allegedly used by Chinese police to gather extensive data from mobile devices. Active since at least 2017, this Android tool collects information such as chat messages, screen recordings, audio, call logs, and location data without the user’s knowledge. The program requires physical access to the target device for installation and is linked to Wuhan Chinasoft Token Information Technology Co., Ltd. Lookout’s findings suggest that this tool is employed by law enforcement agencies in China, with capabilities to monitor real-time activities and exfiltrate data to command-and-control servers.
