The Brain Cipher ransomware group has begun releasing documents stolen from Rhode Island’s RIBridges social services platform, which manages various assistance programs. The breach was confirmed on December 10, following an attack that was first reported on December 5. Approximately 650,000 individuals may have had their personal information, including Social Security numbers and banking details, exposed. Governor McKee has urged residents to monitor their credit and be vigilant against potential phishing scams. The ransomware gang, active since June 2024, has gained notoriety for its attacks, including one on Indonesia’s National Data Center. Currently, their data leak site is offline, possibly due to a DDoS attack.
