BIOS Vulnerabilities Found in Illumina's iSeq 100 Sequencer

/ 1 min read

🧬🔒 BIOS vulnerabilities in Illumina’s iSeq 100 DNA sequencer pose security risks. A recent analysis by Eclypsium revealed significant BIOS/UEFI vulnerabilities in the iSeq 100, a DNA sequencing device used in medical and research labs. The device’s outdated BIOS firmware lacks essential write protections and Secure Boot technology, making it susceptible to attacks that could disable the system or manipulate genetic analysis results. Eclypsium identified nine vulnerabilities, some dating back to 2017, and warned that similar issues may exist in other medical devices using the same OEM motherboard. Illumina has issued a patch for affected customers, asserting that the risks are not high, while emphasizing their commitment to product security and genomic data privacy.
