Web3 Attack Targets Transaction Simulations to Steal Crypto
/ 1 min read
🪙🕳️ New crypto theft tactic exploits transaction simulations in Web3 wallets. A recent attack, identified by ScamSniffer, successfully stole 143.45 Ethereum (approximately $460,000) by manipulating transaction simulation features in Web3 wallets. This tactic involves luring victims to a fraudulent site that mimics a legitimate platform, where a deceptive “Claim” function leads users to believe they will receive ETH. However, a delay allows attackers to alter the transaction’s outcome, resulting in the victim unknowingly signing away their assets. ScamSniffer warns that this sophisticated phishing technique exploits trusted wallet features, making detection difficult. To mitigate risks, users are advised to be cautious with “free claim” offers and to rely only on verified decentralized applications (dApps).
