Windows 10 KB5049981 Update Introduces Security Enhancements

/ 1 min read

🛡️‍♂️ Microsoft releases mandatory KB5049981 update for Windows 10 to enhance security. The new cumulative update, applicable to Windows 10 22H2 and 21H2, introduces an updated Kernel driver blocklist aimed at preventing Bring Your Own Vulnerable Driver (BYOVD) attacks. Users can install the update via Windows Update, which will automatically initiate once checked. The update brings Windows 10 22H2 to build 19045.5371 and 21H2 to build 19044.5371, focusing primarily on security fixes. However, users may encounter issues with OpenSSH services and certain Citrix components that could hinder installation. Notably, there will be no preview updates for December 2024, with updates resuming in January 2025. More details are available in the KB5049981 support bulletin.
