Fake Google Ads Distribute Malware to Homebrew Users

/ 1 min read

💻🔍 Hackers exploit Google ads to distribute malware targeting Homebrew users. A recent campaign has been identified where hackers used fake Google ads to redirect users to a fraudulent Homebrew website, leading to the installation of AmosStealer malware on Macs and Linux devices. This infostealer, which costs cybercriminals $1,000 per month, is designed to extract sensitive information, including credentials and cryptocurrency wallets. The malicious ad mimicked the legitimate Homebrew URL, tricking users into executing a command that installed the malware. Homebrew’s project leader criticized Google for its inadequate oversight, emphasizing the ongoing risk of such malvertising campaigns. Users are advised to verify URLs and bookmark official sites to avoid falling victim to similar scams.
