Mirai Botnet Spinoffs Cause Surge in Global DDoS Attacks
/ 1 min read
🌐 Mirai botnet spinoffs trigger new global DDoS attack wave. Recent research reveals that separate spinoffs of the notorious Mirai botnet are responsible for a surge in distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks worldwide. The “Murdoc_Botnet,” active since July, targets vulnerabilities in Avtech cameras and Huawei routers, while another botnet exploits weak credentials in IoT devices across North America, Europe, and Asia. Researchers identified over 1,300 active IPs linked to Murdoc and noted that attacks have primarily affected organizations in the U.S., Japan, and several European countries. To combat these threats, experts recommend monitoring network traffic and implementing specific mitigation strategies tailored to the types of DDoS attacks observed.
