SaTor Introduces Satellite Routing to Improve Tor Latency

/ 1 min read

🛰️ SaTor: A New Approach to Reducing Latency in the Tor Network. The paper introduces SaTor, a novel scheme designed to enhance the performance of the Tor network by utilizing satellite routing technology to reduce latency without compromising security. Traditional methods of circuit building in Tor often lead to lengthy, geographically distant circuits, resulting in significant delays. SaTor addresses this by equipping Tor relays with satellite access, which accelerates slow circuits while maintaining the randomness of path selection. Performance evaluations indicate that SaTor can achieve an average speed-up of 27.6ms for over 35% of circuits, and up to 450ms during peak slow periods, offering a promising solution to Tor’s latency challenges and serving as a reference for future improvements.
