Aquabot Malware Targets Vulnerabilities in Mitel Phones

/ 1 min read

📞💻 Aquabot malware exploits vulnerabilities in Mitel SIP phones for DDoS attacks. A new variant of the Mirai-based Aquabot malware has begun targeting Mitel SIP phones, specifically exploiting a high-severity command injection vulnerability (CVE-2024-41710) affecting several models, including the 6970 Conference Unit. Mitel had released firmware updates in July 2024 to address this flaw, which could allow attackers to execute arbitrary commands on the devices. The first exploitation attempts were detected in January 2025, utilizing proof-of-concept code to spread the malware. In addition to Mitel devices, Aquabot is also targeting vulnerabilities in various routers and platforms, raising concerns about the security of these systems amid ongoing DDoS threats.
