Microsoft Tests Edge Feature to Block Tech Support Scams

/ 1 min read

🦾 Microsoft introduces AI-powered scareware blocker for Edge browser. Microsoft is testing a new feature for its Edge web browser that utilizes machine learning to detect and block tech support scams, commonly known as scareware. This feature, unveiled at the 2024 Ignite conference, operates in real-time on users’ devices, comparing full-screen pages to a database of known scams without sending data to the cloud. When a potential scam is detected, Edge alerts users, allowing them to decide whether to proceed. Users can also report scams to enhance the effectiveness of the Defender SmartScreen service. This initiative aims to bolster user protection against pervasive online threats while also improving the accuracy of the detection system.
