DAPPER Introduced as Defense Against RowHammer Vulnerabilities
/ 1 min read
🛡️✨ DAPPER: A New Defense Against RowHammer Vulnerabilities. Researchers have introduced DAPPER, a performance-attack-resilient tracker designed to combat RowHammer vulnerabilities in DRAM systems. Traditional mitigations are susceptible to Performance Attacks (Perf-Attacks), which can degrade system performance by exploiting shared tracking structures. DAPPER employs secure hashing mechanisms to prevent adversaries from manipulating these structures, with two versions: DAPPER-S and the enhanced DAPPER-H, which features double-hashing and innovative reset strategies. Security analyses confirm DAPPER-H’s effectiveness against both RowHammer and Perf-Attacks, demonstrating only a 0.9% performance slowdown during testing with various workloads, while utilizing just 96KB of SRAM per 32GB of DRAM.
