HPE has begun notifying at least 16 employees whose personal information, including driver’s licenses and Social Security numbers, was compromised in a May 2023 cyberattack attributed to the Russian state-sponsored group Cozy Bear. The breach, which affected a limited number of HPE mailboxes, was disclosed in an SEC filing on January 29, 2024, after the company was informed of the unauthorized access in December 2023. This incident is believed to be connected to another breach involving HPE’s SharePoint server. HPE has faced previous security incidents, including a 2018 breach by Chinese hackers and a 2021 compromise of its Aruba Central platform. The investigation into the current breach is ongoing.
