Privacy Guarantees Influence Health Data Donation Willingness

/ 1 min read

🩺🔒 Privacy Guarantees Enhance Willingness to Donate Health Data for Research. A study involving 494 participants examined the impact of Privacy Enhancement Technologies (PETs) on the voluntary donation of private health information for altruistic research purposes. The research identified four key privacy guarantees—data expiration, anonymization, purpose restriction, and access control—and assessed their influence on donor willingness, particularly contrasting perceptions of for-profit versus non-profit entities. Findings revealed that while non-profit organizations already enjoy high trust levels, privacy guarantees significantly improved perceptions of for-profit entities. However, transparency regarding auditing mechanisms had minimal effect on trust. The study highlights the need for further interdisciplinary research to align technical community insights with end-user expectations regarding PET effectiveness.
