🕵️♂️ Italian government denies spying on journalists amid spyware allegations. The Italian government has refuted claims of illegally surveilling journalists and migrant activists using military-grade spyware from Israeli firm Paragon Solutions, despite reports of at least seven Italian cellphones being hacked. Following a notification from Meta’s WhatsApp about a spyware campaign, the government activated its National Cybersecurity Agency to investigate the breaches, which also affected users in several other EU countries. Cabinet Minister Luca Ciriani emphasized that the law was followed and threatened legal action against false claims. Among those targeted were critical voices like Luca Casarini and Francesco Cancellato, who suspect their work prompted the surveillance. Paragon Solutions has reportedly halted its contract with Italy following the revelations.
